Hamtramck High and the school district that taught in Polish
1925
Hamtramck, Michigan

After Hamtramck incorporated as a city in 1922 every member of its school board was Polish, and Polish was added to the curriculum. By 1925 about 5,400 of the district's 7,526 pupils were of Polish descent, and Hamtramck High alone had more students than all of Detroit's Polish Catholic high schools put together. The school moved into the old Copernicus junior high building in 1970. Its rolls today are largely Bangladeshi and Yemeni.
