Jordan Downs, war worker barracks turned public housing
1944
Watts, Los Angeles, California
This ground was a truck farm growing vegetables for Watts, South Gate and Lynwood into the Second World War. In May 1944 it opened instead as semi permanent housing for war workers, and in the early 1950s the city housing authority made it permanent. It now runs to 700 townhouse units across 103 buildings between Grape Street and Alameda.
That was 1 of the hidden places.
