Ingalls Memorial Hospital, built by the man who ran the Buda works
1923
Harvey, Illinois
Frederick Ingalls ran the Buda Company, an engine builder that moved its factory to Harvey in 1890, and he pulled together local business owners to pay for a hospital for the town's factory workforce. The fifty bed hospital opened in 1923 and he dedicated it to his wife Jeanette, who died while it was under construction. It doubled in size within seven years and merged into University of Chicago Medicine in 2016.
