Hurricane Michael erases Mexico Beach
2018
Mexico Beach, Florida
Public domain · Wikimedia Commons
It came ashore on 10 October as a category five, the first to hit the United States since Andrew, with a surge that took the front rows of the town off their slabs. One house survived largely intact because its owners had built it to a standard nobody required, on pilings driven deep, and it stood in the photographs surrounded by nothing.
That was 1 of the hidden places.
