Braithwaite floods when Hurricane Isaac stalls over the coast

Braithwaite sits on the east bank of Plaquemines Parish, outside the federal hurricane levee system that was rebuilt around New Orleans after 2005. Hurricane Isaac came ashore at the end of August 2012 as a slow, weak storm and pushed surge over the local back levee into the community. A couple drowned in their home here on August 30, among the first deaths the storm caused in the United States.
