On 6 March 1967 the city opened a 113 acre terminal market on the Hunts Point peninsula and 487 produce merchants moved up from the old Washington Market in Lower Manhattan. It became the largest wholesale produce market in the country. Most of the fruit and vegetables eaten in New York still pass through this peninsula, along with the meat and fish markets that followed.
That was 1 of the hidden places.
