Houston Methodist Baytown began as the hospital Humble Oil paid for
1948
Baytown, Texas
Humble Oil put up 500,000 dollars in 1944 toward a hospital for the refinery towns, and local businesses, groups and residents raised another 1.2 million on top of it. San Jacinto Memorial Hospital opened on Decker Drive on April 18, 1948 with fewer than 100 rooms and 35 physicians. It joined the Houston Methodist system in 1983, and it now runs from this campus with more than 300 rooms and around 1,900 staff.
That was 1 of the hidden places.
