Hoover Presidential Library opens
1962
West Branch, Iowa
Public domain · Wikimedia Commons
The two-room cottage where Hoover was born, the blacksmith shop like his father's and the hillside where he is buried all sit within a short walk of the library, dedicated in 1962 on his 88th birthday with Harry Truman in the audience. The museum gives as much room to the engineer who fed occupied Belgium and postwar Europe as to the president the Depression consumed.
That was 1 of the hidden places.
