Roosevelt invented the federal presidential library: he raised private money, built a fieldstone repository on the family estate, deeded it to the government, and worked out of it while still in office, the only president ever to use his own library from the White House years. Dedicated in June 1941, it turned the private Hayes model at Fremont into a national system, and every president since has followed it. His study inside is kept as he left it.
That was 1 of the hidden places.
