Helms Bakery wins the bread contract for the 1932 Olympics

Paul Helms, a retired New York banker, opened an industrial bakery on the Culver City line in 1931 and landed the exclusive contract to supply the Olympic Village in Baldwin Hills the following year. He sold the connection hard for two decades under the line Olympic Games Bakers, and his fleet of delivery coaches grew from eleven trucks into the hundreds, each working an assigned neighbourhood and announcing itself with a whistle. The bakery closed in 1969 and the Zig Zag Moderne building is now shops and showrooms.
That was 1 of the hidden places.
