Harvey, Illinois

The Chicago lumberman Turlington Harvey, an associate of the evangelist Dwight Moody, laid this industrial suburb out in 1891 and advertised it in the religious press as a place with steady factory work and no liquor. It was modelled on Pullman and grew fast enough to be called the Magic City, passing 5,000 people within three years. In 1895 residents voted by a small margin to license saloons and the temperance experiment was finished.
That was 1 of the hidden places.
