Nela Park, the world's first industrial park

The National Electric Lamp Association began laying out a campus of Georgian brick buildings on a hillside above Noble Road in 1911, the same year the association was folded into General Electric. Instead of a factory shed, it built a landscaped quadrangle where engineers researched lamps, and most of the century's lighting advances came out of it. It is generally credited as the first industrial park anywhere, and it still runs as GE Lighting's headquarters.
