Hanley International Academy takes over a closed Polish parish school
2005

The school opened in August 2005 under a charter contract with Grand Valley State University, and its enrolment roughly doubled from about 200 to 400 inside the first year. One of the buildings it used had been St. Florian Elementary, the parish school attached to the Gothic church the Polish autoworkers paid for, which the archdiocese closed in 2006. Hanley now teaches preschool through eighth grade in a city whose school rolls are largely Bangladeshi and Yemeni.
