Grosse Point Light goes up after the shipwrecks
1873
Lighthouse Beach, Evanston
User:JeremyA · CC BY-SA 2.5 · Wikimedia Commons
Evanston residents lobbied Washington for a lighthouse after a run of wrecks off this stretch of shore, and the tower was finished in 1873. It is looked after by the Evanston Lighthouse Park District, a taxing body that exists for this one property. The light was named a National Historic Landmark in 1999.
That was 1 of the hidden places.
