Griffith, the town that came to the tracks

Five railroads crossed here before there was a town, so the town grew around the crossing rather than the other way round. Speculators bought the surrounding farmland in 1891 meaning to sell a factory town, and the place took its name from a surveyor who had worked the ground for the Grand Trunk. At the peak in the 1970s something like 180 trains a day ran through the Broad Street diamonds. Two railroads still work it.
