Green ooze seeps onto I-696 in Madison Heights
2019

In December 2019 bright green liquid ran out of the embankment onto the freeway. It was groundwater carrying hexavalent chromium from a shuttered electroplating shop whose owner had kept toxic waste in a pit dug into the basement floor. The state had closed the business in 2016, federal emergency crews handled the freeway, and the building was demolished after the city approved the work in 2022.
That was 1 of the hidden places.
