Gravelly Point, where people go to stand under the planes
1941
Arlington, Virginia
Public domain · Wikimedia Commons
A strip of parkland on the Potomac immediately off the end of National Airport's main runway, close enough that arriving jets pass overhead at a few hundred feet. Plane spotters, picnickers and anyone wanting the noise have been coming here for more than fifty years. It belongs to the National Park Service as part of the George Washington Memorial Parkway.
That was 1 of the hidden places.
