Governor Stoneman's adobe on the old Rancho San Pascual
1876
San Marino, California
George Stoneman, a Union cavalry general who led the last cavalry raid of the Civil War, built an adobe house here in 1876 on a 400 acre estate cut from Rancho San Pascual. He served as the fifteenth governor of California from 1883 to 1887. The house later burned, with rumours that a political enemy set it, and nothing of it remains. The state marked the spot as Historical Landmark 669 in 1958.
That was 1 of the hidden places.
