The Oak of Peace at the Catalina Verdugo Adobe
1847
Glendale, California
Floatjon · CC BY-SA 3.0 · Wikimedia Commons
Teodoro Verdugo built this adobe on his grandfather's rancho, most likely in the late 1820s or 1830s. On 11 January 1847 Jesus Pico met General Andres Pico under an oak on the property, carrying terms from John C. Fremont, and talked him into surrendering rather than fighting on. The Capitulation of Cahuenga was signed two days later. Glendale owns the site and runs it as a park.
That was 1 of the hidden places.
