Gilbert turns its treated waste water into a lake full of birds
1999
Gilbert, Arizona
The Riparian Preserve at Water Ranch opened in 1999 as seven recharge basins where Gilbert returns reclaimed water to the ground. The flooded basins drew wildlife, and the 110 acre site now records close to 300 species along four and a half miles of trail. It also carries a public observatory and a dig pit where children excavate fossil casts.
That was 1 of the hidden places.
