Gilbert started as a siding on a rail line built to move alfalfa out of the East Valley, and by the 1920s it was calling itself the hay shipping capital of the world. It incorporated in July 1920 as a farm town of a few hundred people. It never took the title of city, which is how a place of roughly 287,000 people is now the most populous incorporated town in the United States.
That was 1 of the hidden places.
