The man whose unfinished portrait of George Washington is on every dollar bill was born in this gambrel-roofed house at his father's snuff mill in 1755. Stuart painted the first six presidents and over a thousand portraits, and kept the Washington original deliberately unfinished so he could paint copies on demand for the rest of his life, calling them his hundred dollar bills. The mill wheel still turns.
That was 1 of the hidden places.
