Gideon and Samuel Pond arrived in 1834 with permission from the Indian agent at Fort Snelling to live among the Dakota and teach Christianity and farming. Gideon ran the Oak Grove mission on this bluff from 1843 to 1852 and built the brick house that still stands in 1856. The grounds are now Pond Dakota Mission Park, which also holds the remains of the family farm and orchards.
That was 1 of the hidden places.
