Frogtown, named for the swamp the railway workers moved into

The Thomas Dale neighbourhood filled up in the 1860s and 1870s with German, Polish, Irish and Scandinavian workers who wanted to live within walking distance of the St. Paul and Pacific yards. The land was marshy and loud with frogs, and the German nickname Froschberg stuck to it in English as Frogtown. The first streetcar line between the two cities ran down University Avenue in 1890, and later waves of Hmong, Vietnamese and East African arrivals took over the same blocks.
That was 1 of the hidden places.
