Flower Mound is named for the 12.5 acre mound in the middle of town
1961
Flower Mound, Texas
The mound is a rise of about 12.5 acres near the centre of town, and settlers were holding religious camp meetings on it in the 1840s before anyone lived here year round. Permanent settlement followed in the 1850s, but the place did not bother to incorporate until 1961. A scheme to build a planned community here collapsed in the early 1970s. What actually filled the town was the airport, which opened just to the south in 1974.
That was 1 of the hidden places.
