Florida City started out as a land promotion called Detroit
1910
Florida City, Florida

The southernmost town on the Florida mainland was sold to northern buyers under the name Detroit. When the first thirty families turned up in 1910 nothing had been built, so they lodged in Homestead until their own houses went up, and the name was changed to Florida City soon after. It is still a farming town, and along with Homestead it took the worst of Hurricane Andrew in August 1992.
That was 1 of the hidden places.
