Eisenhower Park, larger than Central Park

The land was the private Salisbury Country Club, five eighteen-hole courses where Walter Hagen won the 1926 PGA Championship, until the owners stopped paying taxes in the Depression and the county took it. Nassau established the park in 1944, explicitly meaning it to be to the county what Central Park is to the city, and dedicated it in 1949. At 930 acres it is in fact the bigger of the two. Three of the golf courses survive, along with the county's September 11th memorial.
