Edward Hospital began as a tuberculosis sanitorium

Eudora Spalding founded the Edward Sanitorium in 1907 in memory of her husband Edward Gaylord, who had died of tuberculosis, and it became one of the first treatment centres of its kind in the Great Lakes region. Fire took the main building in 1920 and a fireproof replacement went up for 150,000 dollars. Joy Morton of Morton Salt helped carry it through the 1930s. It was handed to the City of Naperville in 1955 and turned into a general hospital.
