The Cooper family gave the land and $200,000, and the four storey stone hospital was finished in 1877. There was then no money to run it, so it sat empty for a decade and finally admitted patients in August 1887. Its charter promised care to anyone hurt anywhere in New Jersey without regard to class or party. It is now the region's Level I trauma centre and one of Camden's largest employers.
That was 1 of the hidden places.
