The District of Columbia built twenty three Colonial Revival buildings on 216 acres out here in the 1930s to isolate its tuberculosis patients, adults and children both, far enough from the city for the fresh air treatment. Antibiotics emptied the wards through the 1950s and it was turned over to long term and indigent care. Asbestos and upkeep costs closed it in 1982 and the buildings have stood empty since, patrolled to keep people out.
That was 1 of the hidden places.
