George Westinghouse put his electrical works in this borough, and they supplied equipment to the power plants at Niagara Falls and to New York's elevated and rapid transit lines. On 2 November 1920 Leo Rosenberg sat in a shack on the roof of the East Pittsburgh plant and read the Harding and Cox presidential returns into a 100 watt transmitter, the first scheduled programme broadcast by a licensed station. The borough held 6,079 people in 1940 and 1,927 in 2020.
