The Duquesne Works started in 1886 and Carnegie bought it in 1890, then fitted the blast furnace plant with the first fully mechanised material handling system in the industry, a change the trade called the Duquesne Revolution. Its ingots fed the finishing mills at Homestead. Dorothy Six, built in 1963, was the largest blast furnace in the world at the time. U.S. Steel shut the plant in 1984, and Duquesne counted 5,254 residents in 2020.
