The GM plant that made Sleepy Hollow a factory town
1900

For most of the twentieth century the village now called Sleepy Hollow was a company town, and the company was General Motors. Chevrolet bought into the 90 acre riverfront works in 1914, and about 12 million vehicles came out of it before the last minivan was built in June 1996. During the Second World War the plant was renamed Eastern Aircraft and turned out wings for Grumman torpedo bombers with a workforce of 10,000. The buildings came down in 1999 and 2,100 jobs went with the closure.
That was 1 of the hidden places.
