Dixie Square Mall, the dead mall wrecked on camera for The Blues Brothers

The mall opened at 151st and Dixie Highway in 1966 and was shut by 1978, one of the first enclosed malls in the country to die outright. In 1979 the producers of The Blues Brothers restocked the empty storefronts with fake shops so a car could be driven through the concourse at speed. The building was left standing and unsecured for another three decades and was not finally cleared until 2012.
