A Black harmonica player who had had polio as a child was the most popular performer on early WSM, and it was his Pan American Blues that followed the announcer's line about grand opera the night the show got its name. He was dropped in 1941 during a licensing dispute, never really worked in music again, and shined shoes on Twelfth Avenue for the rest of his life. He is buried here, and was elected to the Hall of Fame in 2005.
