Deer Park calls itself the birthplace of Texas
1892
Deer Park, Texas
Public domain · Wikimedia Commons
Simeon West, an Illinois farmer and legislator, filed the plat for this town on December 20, 1892 and named it for the deer on the coastal prairie. The claim on the city sign is older than the town: after the fighting at San Jacinto, Sam Houston, David Burnet and the Texas cabinet drafted the first treaty papers at George Patrick's cabin on this ground. The refineries came later, and Deer Park now lives between Shell, Pemex and Dow.
That was 1 of the hidden places.
