Dearborn City Hall and Orville Hubbard's thirty-six years
1921
Dearborn, Michigan

The 1921 building on Michigan Avenue began as the Springwells Municipal Building and became Dearborn's city hall, with a police and courts wing added in 1929. Orville Hubbard ran the city from here as mayor from 1942 to 1978 under the slogan Keep Dearborn Clean, which he and everyone else understood to mean keep Dearborn white. He was indicted under a federal civil rights statute in 1965 after Dearborn police stood by while a crowd stoned a house. His statue stood outside until the city moved it to the historical museum in 2015.
That was 1 of the hidden places.
