Dallas Carter wins a state title in 1988 and loses it two years later
1988
Dallas, Texas
Carter beat Converse Judson 31 to 14 for the Texas 5A football championship in 1988, the first for a Dallas school district team in decades. The University Interscholastic League took the title back two years later after the courts found the school had played an ineligible player under the no pass no play rule, one algebra grade having been moved from a 68 to a 72. In the weeks after the final a group of neighbourhood teenagers that included several players carried out a string of armed robberies, and several were convicted. ESPN told the whole story in the 2017 film What Carter Lost.
