Third rail electrification on the Hudson Line stops just north of this station, so Croton-Harmon is where commuter New York physically ends and the rest of the state begins. Nearly every electric train on the line turns around here, and anything continuing north to Poughkeepsie or beyond runs on diesel. Amtrak's Empire Corridor trains all call here too. The Harmon name comes from Clifford Harmon, who gave the New York Central the land on condition the station keep it.
That was 1 of the hidden places.
