Craig Field is named for a Jacksonville man lost at Pearl Harbor
1941
Jacksonville, Florida
Lieutenant Commander James E. Craig was born in Jacksonville in 1901 and was serving as damage control officer aboard the battleship Pennsylvania when Japanese aircraft attacked Pearl Harbor on 7 December 1941. He was killed in the attack. The training field that opened east of the city in the 1940s was named for him, and so was a destroyer escort his widow christened. When his name was later dropped from the airport's title, public objection put it back.
That was 1 of the hidden places.
