The club opened out on River Road in 1924 and its Blue Course has since held five major championships, three of them U.S. Opens. Ken Venturi won here in 1964, Ernie Els in 1997 and Rory McIlroy in 2011. It also ran the Kemper Open for years before that tournament moved to Avenel.
