Atlanta Country Club hosts the first Tournament Players Championship
1974
East Cobb, Georgia
The club was founded in 1964 in the Chattahoochee Plantation stretch of East Cobb and opened its Willard Byrd course two years later. In 1974 it staged the first Tournament Players Championship, the event the PGA Tour had just created for itself, and Jack Nicklaus won it. The tour's Atlanta Classic was played here from 1967 until 1996, when the tournament left Cobb County for Sugarloaf in Gwinnett.
