George McGrew and his son in law Albert Bond Lambert finished this course in 1901, the first eighteen holes ever built west of the Mississippi. Three years later it hosted the golf events of the 1904 Summer Olympics, staged in St. Louis alongside the World's Fair. Golf then dropped off the Olympic program entirely and did not come back until Rio in 2016. Lambert later put his money into the airfield a few miles north that still carries his name.
That was 1 of the hidden places.
