Colonel James Wren, a descendant of the architect of St Paul's in London, drew the plans for the main church of the Church of England's Fairfax Parish here. George Washington and Robert E. Lee were both parishioners. On 1 January 1942, three weeks after Pearl Harbor, Franklin Roosevelt brought Winston Churchill here for a World Day of Prayer service. Sitting presidents attended it as a matter of tradition into this century.
That was 1 of the hidden places.
