Chelmsford Centre, the town Lowell was carved out of
1655
Chelmsford, Massachusetts

Chelmsford was incorporated in 1655 and its common and first burying ground are still the middle of the town. The land that became Lowell was East Chelmsford until 1826, when the mill investors took it away and named it for Francis Cabot Lowell. What is left at the centre is a Greek Revival and Italianate village that never industrialised.
That was 1 of the hidden places.
