Cedar Hill's tower farm puts Dallas and Fort Worth on the air

The limestone escarpment at Cedar Hill is the highest ground in this part of North Texas, high enough that one mast can cover Dallas and Fort Worth at once, so the region's broadcasters built here instead of in either city. Roughly a dozen towers stand on the ridge, many of them near 1,600 feet, and between them they carry most of the metroplex's television and FM radio. KERA channel 13, the public station that signed on in September 1960, transmits from the southern cluster.
