Casa Mañana, Billy Rose's revolving stage and Fuller's dome

Dallas won the official 1936 Texas Centennial, so Fort Worth hired the Broadway producer Billy Rose to stage a rival show and take the crowds. He built an outdoor theatre seating 3,500 around a revolving stage, ringed by thirty Spanish arches and what was advertised as the world's longest bar, with the fan dancer Sally Rand on the bill. The original ran only two seasons. In 1958 the city raised a permanent aluminium geodesic dome nearby, worked out with Buckminster Fuller and Henry Kaiser, and it still holds a theatre in the round.
