Buckminster Fuller's mile wide dome for East St. Louis

East St. Louis, Illinois

Katherine Dunham and Wyvetter Younge asked Buckminster Fuller what could be done for a city losing people and money at the same rate. In 1971 he answered with Old Man River's City: a terraced crater a mile across, holding housing for 125,000 people, the whole of it under a geodesic dome a thousand feet high. Fuller showed the model at a public meeting in East St. Louis. Not one piece of it was ever built.
That was 1 of the hidden places.
