Campagnone Common, where the 1912 strikers met
1912
Lawrence, Massachusetts
CC0 · Wikimedia Commons
The city's central park is where Bread and Roses strikers gathered through the winter of 1912 to hear their organisers speak, while state militia patrolled the streets around it. It was later renamed for three Campagnone brothers of Lawrence who were killed in the Second World War. The Bread and Roses festival has been held on this ground every Labor Day for decades.
