Bronx Borough Hall, lost to fire above Tremont
1897
East Tremont, the Bronx
George B. Post, architect of the New York Stock Exchange, designed the borough's first civic headquarters in yellow brick and brown terracotta and set it on a rock plateau above East Tremont Avenue. It opened in 1897 and housed borough presidents for seven decades. Fire gutted the building and the city demolished what was left in 1969, on ground that is now part of Tremont Park.
That was 1 of the hidden places.
